La Jolla High School recognizes the importance of the arts in education and takes pride in offering a wide array of opportunities. Students are afforded a myriad of ways to indulge their creativity and satisfy their "Visual and Performing Arts' (VAPA) requirements needed for both high school graduation and UC/CSU admission. Additionally, there are clubs and events which allow and encourage students to explore their creative side.
Visual & Performing Art Offerings
Visual Arts class offerings include: Art, Ceramics, AP Art History, Photography, and 3-Dimensional Design.
Performing Arts offerings include: Theater (Drama) and Technical Theater.
Other Arts classes include Video Production and Computerized Graphic Design.
Student Art Clubs
Arts education at La Jolla High is not confined to the classroom. Students may participate in clubs which encompass a variety of creative interests. Including Dance, Drama, Filmmaking, Foreign Film, Hip Hop, and Improv.
Performances
The Theater department ljhstheatre.com offers several performances annually with shows ranging from uproarious comedy to taut drama and auditions are open to all students.
Our award-winning Improv Group performs and competes with other local high schools each spring.
The annual AirBand competition, sponsored by the ASB is always a huge success and sells out both performances.
